Linen and Laundry services are responsible for providing safe, clean, adequate and timely supply of linen to user units of hospital at right time, and right place. The Laundry Plant is situated at 13th floor which is equipped with all modern and high standard equipments like 03 washing machines of different sizes, 01 gas and 01 electric boiler, 02 steam pressers and 02 sewing machines. A temperature of 170 degree Celsius is obtained from steam at 45 kg per 6 sq. cm pressures per part. This Room has two Drum Weighters from where dirty and clean linen can be transferred separately to and from different Floors. This Department has a separate distribution room and a sewing room also.
The laundry service at SMBB Institute of Trauma processes on an average, more than 8000 items a week including sheets, pillowcases, barrier gowns and patient’s clothes for different departments in hospital. Over 193, 000 items of bed linen and uniforms were cleaned last year in our laundry at Trauma centre. Their team comprises of 15 laundry assistants and one team leader. Such is the work of one of the unsung departments that keeps this hospital running 365 days a year.
Objective of laundry services:
• To provide comfortable and pleasant environment to patient by supplying clean linen.
• To control Hospital Infection (3-4% of HAI is due to mishandling of the infected linen).
• Uninterrupted supply of linen to user department especially to sensitive areas.
